There will be plenty of young athletes representing our region at the upcoming Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games in Deer Lake March 10 to 18.

Seventeen students from St. James Regional High School will compete in men’s and women’s hockey, bowling, wrestling and figure skating.

“I think it’s just nice to play with competitive girls at a higher skill level,” said goaltender Tori Dominix.

Figure skaters Ashley Ingram and Jennie Dominie, both 13, have qualified in their division to compete.

“I want to place,” said a determined Dominie.

Ingram says she is also eying the podium.

The athletes all say the thing they most look forward to is just attending the games and having fun. For many this will be their first time competing at the provincial Winter Games.
