The first leg was started by Chief Petty Officer Second Class Jason Roberts, who hails from the area.

After dipping the Newfoundland flag in the water behind the town hall, Roberts began his run to applause and cheers from his crewmates, residents and other supporters.

Donations received from the Run the Rock will benefit The Children’s Wish Foundation.

Port aux Basques native Jason Roberts ran the first leg and was even granted an escort through town from local RCMP.
