Tip helps RCMP charge South River man for impaired driving

SOUTH RIVER, N.L. —

A tip helped Bay Roberts RCMP take a suspected impaired driver off the road Tuesday evening in South River.

According to a news release, Bay Roberts RCMP received a tip at 10 p.m. about a possible impaired driver heading towards South River.

Police responded and located the vehicle. The driver, a 65-year-old man from South River, was arrested for impaired driving. He was taken back to the detachment where he refused to provide a breath sample.

The man was charged with impaired driving and refusing to comply with a demand for a breath sample. His licence was suspended and vehicle seized.

He was released from custody and will appear in court on Sept. 18.
