PORT AUX BASQUES, N.L.— High winds have caused the roof to blow off the Harbour Restaurant in Port aux Basques today, Thursday, Nov. 29.

Caribou Road was closed until the downed power lines and heavy debris could be cleared away.

Earlier today, wind speeds in Port aux Basques were clocked at 140 kilometres an hour from the northeast.

Garbage boxes have blown over and a bus shelter on Regional Street was also toppled. There are no reports of any other major damage, however.

Marine Atlantic ferries are tied up until the winds abate and are not scheduled to resume sailings until Friday morning.

St. James Regional High will also remain closed due to today’s weather.
