CORNER BROOK, N.L. —

The victim of a violent home invasion in Humber Arm South this past weekend was attacked with a hammer.

Twin brothers, Shane Roderick White and Shawn Robert White, remain in custody facing charges in connection with the incident. They were arrested Sunday after the attack was reported to police at 3:20 a.m. Saturday morning.

The 33-year-old brothers from the Humber Arm South community of Benoit’s Cove are both charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, robbery and breaking and entering to commit an indictable offence.

Court documents indicate the victim was assaulted with a hammer and disfigured while being robbed of medication.

Police said the man who was assaulted and robbed was sent to hospital.

Shane White is also charged with two counts of breaching probation, including a condition that he have no communication with his brother who is co-accused in the home invasion.

When the two appeared in provincial court in Corner Brook Tuesday, Crown attorney Adam Sparkes indicated he was opposed to releasing either of them and was proceeding with prosecution by indictment on all charges.

Legal aid defence counsel Jacob Leon said he would be representing Shane White and that, because Shawn White was the complainant in another matter against Shane White, that the legal aid office in Stephenville would be representing Shawn White to avoid any conflict of interest.

The Whites will both be back in court Wednesday morning for a status update on the proceedings against them and their remand.
