GLOVERTOWN, N.L. —

A Glovertown man was charged under the province’s All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) Act for knowingly permitting one of his children, a youth under 16 years of age, to operate an ATV without insurance.

While patrolling the community on Wednesday, an Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer spotted an ATV with two passengers operating on a roadway, travelling with the flow of traffic. The driver of the ATV fled when RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic safety stop.

A short while later, the officer located the ATV and two youth, both under the age of 16, hiding behind a water tower.

Their father was called to the scene and it was determined there was no insurance on the ATV, earning the parent a fine for permitting a person under 19 years to operate an ATV without insurance.  He was also warned about allowing a person under 16 years to operate an ATV.

The ATV was impounded.
