The Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs (NLOWE) is hosting five International Women’s Day events across the province this week.

The events began in Corner Brook on Wednesday, then continue in St. John’s, Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Grand Falls-Windsor Thursday, concluding on International Women’s Day in Clarenville on March 8.

About 450 people are expected to attend the events altogether.

According to an NLOWE news release, the events “will celebrate women’s achievements and acknowledge the challenges that women continue to face in the quest for gender equality.”

The events are presented by NLOWE in partnership with RBC-Royal Bank, Business Development Bank of Canada and various other community partners.

Motivational humorist Meg Soper will speak at the events.

More than 200 people are registered to attend the St. John’s celebration Thursday morning at the Conference Centre on Signal Hill.

At each of the events, donations will be collected and distributed by region to the following organizations: Violence Prevention West, Mokami Status of Women Council, Status of Women Central, the Clarenville Dragon Boat Team and REACH (Regional Action Committee on Housing), and the Iris Kirby House.
