The St. James Saints almost gave the hometown fans a late Christmas present, coming within two minutes of their first win of the season.

But Andrew Milley of the Stephenville Spartans scored late in the third period, and the Saints had to settle for a 5-5 tie.

The Saints led 3-0 after the first period on goals from Andrew Graham, Ryan Savoury and Josh Morrison. The Spartans responded with three of their own in the second, two from Michael MacIsaac and another from Logan McIsaac.

Noah King and Andrew Clarke put the Saints back on top in the third period, but McIsaac and Milley scored for Stephenville to keep the Saints winless.

The Saints fell to 0-7-4, and will wrap up the regular season in Stephenville next week. Playoffs will get underway in February. The Saints will take on the Elwood High Lakers and Stephenville will face the Corner Brook Titans.
