The St. James Saints opened the high school hockey season Monday night in Corner Brook.

The Corner Brook Regional High Titans blasted the Saints 14-2.

Aaron Purcell-Pilgrim and Evan Gallant both had hat tricks for the Titans, while Brent Eason, Matt Bonnell and Kirk Penney each notched a pair. Kyle George and Daniel O’Neill picked up single markers.

Jackson Butt and Ryan Osmond responded in the losing cause.

Tyler Bursey recorded the win in net, with Brady Aucoin and Jordan Pike sharing time in the Saints’ crease during the loss.

The Saints will play their first home game Thursday night at the Bruce II, when they host the Elwood High Lakers.

In Deer Lake, the Stephenville High Spartans, led by two goals each from Dawson Drake and George Young, defeated Elwood High 6-2 at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex.

Brady Marche and Mark Anderson also lit the lamp in the winning effort.

Joshua Oake and Drew Langdon replied for the Lakers.

Both Drake’s goals came in the first period, before Marche struck to make it a 3-0 game by the first intermission.

Young picked up his first of the game about midway through the second, before the Lakers finally got on the board when Oake scored in the dying seconds of the frame.

Langdon pulled his side to within two goals with 11:07 left on the clock, but Young scored again, before Anderson iced it with just over a minute left to play.

Tristan Hynes earned the win in net over Kirklin Young.
