The opening round playoff series between the St. James Saints and the Elwood Regional High Lakers is tied at a game each after the Lakers blasted the Saints on Monday night.

Jacob Bennett scored a pair to lead the Lakers to a 7-1 win at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex in Deer Lake. Justin Compton, Michael Maher, O.B. Major, Kirklin Anstey and Brady Pinksen also scored for the Lakers.

Josh Morrison had the lone goal for the Saints.

Jordan Best earned the win in net for the Lakers, while Harry Osmond took the loss for St. James.

The game was the first the teams had played since Feb. 11, when the Saints shocked the Lakers in overtime for their first win of the season.

Game 3 in the best-of-five series will be in Deer Lake on Wednesday night.

In the other first-round series, the Stephenville Spartans took a 2-1 series lead after defeating the Corner Brook Titans 7-1.
