Icepak earn Atlantics berth

The Central Icepak will represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2016 Bantam Female Atlantic Championship next month.

The Icepak earned the berth at the tournament in Bridgewater, N.S., after edging the defending champion Eastern Ice Breakers 3-2 in triple-overtime at the Bruce II Sports Centre on Feb. 28.
The TriPen Ice finished third while the host Western Warriors rounded out the field.
The Icepak had a rough start to the tournament, falling 3-0 to the Ice Breakers in the tournament's opening game. Then they blew a two-goal lead late to the Warriors, settling for a 4-4 tie.
A 7-1 win over TriPen earned them second place in the round robin and a rematch with the Ice for a spot in the championship game with Eastern.
Mackenzie Hanlon scored with less than three minutes to play in the semifinal, breaking 3-3 tie and giving Central a shot at the defending champs.
Central's Jenna Dooley led the tournament in scoring, notching three goals and three assists in three round-robin games.
Western's Megan Clarke had three assists in the round robin, and her teammate Megan Savoury was the Warriors' top goal scorer with a pair in three games.
