The second period was not kind to the St. James Saints Thursday night.

Trailing the Corner Brook Titans 2-1 after one, the Saints surrendered five unanswered goals in the middle frame on their way to a 9-1 loss at the Bruce II Sports Centre.

The loss extended the Saints' season-long losing streak to eight games.

Evan Gallant led the offensive onslaught for the Titans. Gallant scored five times in the win, including on a penalty shot in the second period after Saints player Mitchell Billard covered the puck in the crease.

Alex Griffin had a pair for Corner Brook, with Sonny Gregoire and Kyle Brown adding singles.

Chris Hayes had the lone goal for the Saints.

Tyler Bursey got the win for the Titans. Jordon Pike, making his first home start for the Saints, took the loss.

The Saints' next scheduled home game is Jan. 12 against Stephenville.
