Saints trounced in home opener

The rough start for the St. James Saints in the West Coast High School Hockey League continued Thursday night.

The Saints hosted the Corner Brook Regional High Titans in their home opener at the Bruce II Sports Centre and got thumped 11-1 by the visitors.

The Titans scored 13 seconds into the game and were up 2-0 after less than a minute.

Aaron Purcell-Pilgrim had a hat trick for Corner Brook, while Evan Gallant and Kyle George scored two goals each. Brent Eason, Riley Rafferty and Matt Bonnell added a goal each.

James Bond had the lone goal for the Saints.

Tyler Bursey earned the win in net for the Titans, with Brady Aucoin taking the loss for St. James.

The Saints are in Stephenville this week to take on the Spartans. Their next home game is Nov. 17 against those same Spartans.

The Saints currently have a record of 0-3-0 and have been outscored 37-5 in those losses.
