I love to pass on information about great free products that I personally use and appreciate.
This week I would like to tell you about an outstanding piece of software called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
It is available at www.malwarebytes.org and you can download a free trial. It has a small install program, less than 3 MB, named mbam-setup.exe. Install is very simple, just click next on each page.
On your fist run, the software will perform an update, getting its new definitions via the internet.
To get a feel for the software, perform a quick scan. The software will alert you when the scan is finished. Click the "Show Results" button to browse through the scan results. You can now select any malware found and then click the "Remove Selected" button to get rid of them. A reboot of the computer may be required to complete the removal process. The complete scan is also recorded in a log that you can refer to later.
Updating is easy, click the update tab and then click the "Check for Updates" button while your computer is connected to the internet.
In addition to providing this free software, you can purchase a full-blown copy that offers real time protection (aka, prevent yourself from becoming infected in the first place) and that has scheduled scanning and updating features.
Look, I have used this software to get rid of some nasty stuff. I don't know what else I can say about this software except that it is my opinion that it works damn good. It is a marvelous piece of software that is available for free.
