There were four people working on the drill floor of the Hibernia platform when a 515-kilogram piece of tubing fell from three metres above Friday.
“Although there were no injuries associated with this incident, it had the potential for fatality,” stated a notice issued this morning (Wednesday) by the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (CNLOPB).
Work was immediately stopped and secured, according to information provided by Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC). The company later re-started work and is investigating the incident.
The CNLOPB notice states it is monitoring the ongoing investigation.
