The visitor information centre in Port aux Basques and others across the province are now open for the season.

The South West Coast Joint Council wants the provincial government to keep the visitor information centre in Port aux Basques open until the end of October.

According to an email South West Coast Joint Council chair Peter Fenwick sent to Tourism, Culture, Industry, and Innovation Minister Christopher Mitchelmore on Tuesday, copying many members of the media in the province, the issue was discussed at the group's recent meeting,

“It is our opinion that the closing at the end of September is too early,” Fenwick indicated.

Fenwick suggested there are still many tourists in the area when the centre closes.

“I recognize that the initial early closing took place while the Tories were in office but here is a chance for your department to reverse a poor policy decision,” Fenwick added.
