Michael O’Keefe of St. John’s has been nominated 2018 Rhodes Scholar elect from Newfoundland and Labrador.
This prestigious scholarship provides the opportunity to study at the University of Oxford, one of the top universities in the world
O’Keefe is currently completing a bachelor of music at Memorial University , with a double major in trumpet and musicology.
At Oxford, he plans to complete a masters in music as well as a masters in public policy.
O’Keefe has held numerous leadership roles at Memorial University, including senator in the university senate since 2014, board member on the Students’ Union since 2014 and student representative on the Music Decantal Search Committee in 2015-16.
He has been a delegate for the Fullbright Institute for Canada in the World, the Wor University Services Canada leadership training program, and the Canadian Federation of Students’ national meeting.
Among his volunteer endeavours, O’Keefe has been a humanitarian team member of Live Different, through which he has participated in school construction in Haiti in 2015 house construction in the Dominican Republic in 2016.
