About 20 fire fighters responded to a garage fire on Sunset Drive in Grand Bay on Thursday evening.
Luckily nobody was injured in the blaze.
Port aux Basques fire chief Jerry Musseau said the call came in at about 7:20 p.m. The department responded with two pumper trucks.
It is believed the fire originated from a woodstove in the home's attached garage.
The garage was totally consumed in the blaze. An ATV and snowmobile were also destroyed.
The fire spread into the attic of the home, but firefighters were able to save the house itself.
Chief Musseau said the department got the fire under control fairly quickly. He said it was a nice night with no wind, which worked in their favor. They left the scene at around 10:30 p.m.
The house sustained extensive smoke and water damage, but Chief Musseau believes it may be salvageable.
The department is reminding residents, as the cold weather arrives, to use caution when operating wood-burning appliances. He said chimneys should be cleaned on a regular basis.
Chief Musseau also asked people to keep their vehicles away from any scene that the fire department may attend to in the future. He said those who attempt to drive past a burning building for a look are preventing volunteer firefighters from getting to the scene in their vehicles, as many of the volunteers do not arrive on the trucks.
