Voting starts today for PAB Aviva splash pad contest

The Town of Channel-Port aux Basques is working with residents to develop a water park as part of an aggressive plan to revitalize its downtown business community.

One successful project is Andy's Rainbow Park, which competed for funding from the Aviva Community Fund in 2013, 2014 and 2016 but did not win. Because of its amenities and beautiful location, the park is popular with locals, and upgrades will continue, including funding for a walking track.

The town is hoping to upgrade the park even more, and is seeking support to install a splash pad. This equipment would serve the entire southwest coast, and would encourage safe water play for all children of all ages in a controlled area.

To win the splash pad through the Aviva Community Fund, the town asks everyone along the southwest coast to vote for Channel-Port aux Basques (project number 17-66) through the fund’s website ( Voting starts Oct. 10 and ends Oct. 19. There is a limit of 18 votes per email address.

If successful, the splash pad will be another piece of equipment that provides inclusion for all children, helping to create a social and interactive environment for families.
