Students at Grandy’s River Collegiate took on a special project this Christmas.
Teacher Victoria Byrne, with the support of her colleagues, invited students to make Christmas cards for seniors in the region to help spread a bit of holiday cheer and perhaps a smile or two.

“I thought it would be a nice thing to do for seniors in our community,” said Byrne, who was inspired to launch the project based on a similar program at another school.

School staff identified 238 seniors in the community, but the students rose to the challenge.
Younger students spent their lunch breaks crafting hand-made cards, while the older ones took the time to purchase or solicit cards from family, friends and other members of the community.

“We had a bit of a task to get that many cards done and delivered,” said Byrne.

The cards also came with a candy cane treat, and the students will deliver them door-to-door to the recipients.
