Burgeo road a great place to spot caribou

 ..
..

If you are interested in watching wildlife, the Burgeo Road Route 480 is the place to visit.

If you visit the Top Pond area, one would think they are entering cattle farming area, but no, they are the Newfoundland caribou herd that is in the area.

During the days of the big caribou herds, during the spring and summer seasons, the herds would disperse and only minimal numbers would be seen, however, during fall and winter seasons huge herds of caribou would be in the area.

There is a huge herd presently in this area and it appears to be mostly stags and young does. The females with their young haven't joined the herd as of yet.

With the once dwindling caribou it is a welcome sight to see so many animals in the area. As well as caribou, moose, geese and ducks with their chicks, fox around the roads make for a great day to view the wildlife and add some photography to your collection.
