Spring sale

The St. James annual ACW Spring Sale will be held on Monday, May 1 at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Center in Port aux Basques. There will be crafts, baked goods and much more. Tickets for cold plates may be purchased by calling Bessie Blackmore at 695-2429 or Dianne Hewitt at 695-3777.

St. Michael’s R.C. Church are hosting a dessert and entertainment at the Wesley United Hall on Sunday, May 7 starting at 6:30 p.m. For tickets call Dorothy at 695-3075 or 695-8265.

Mother’s Day Dinner and Music

The Port aux Basques Lions Club will be hosting a Mother’s Day Dinner and Music on Sunday, May 14, from 4-8 p.m. Meal choices halibut, lobster or roast beef. Music by Monford Organ. For tickets call Harry Durnford 695-8711 or Don Lawrence at 695-8190.

Senior Men's Ball Hockey

Registration open

The Port aux Basques Senior Men's Ball hockey league resumes in April, with the season running until June. Anyone who is 16 years old or older can play. Registration includes a 16-game regular season plus playoffs. If you’re interesting in playing call 694-2452.

Volunteer Peer Group Facilitation training

CHANNEL is offering a free volunteer peer support group facilitation training in Port aux Basques. If you are interested in hosting a mental health peer support group in your area or in developing your skills as a group facilitator, contact Bonnie (collect) at 709-643-4361 or Joel at 694-0636.

The Rec House Youth Centre

As a drop in centre, youth from 12-18 can come by Monday to Thursday till 9 p.m., Friday till 10 p.m., and Saturday 3-10 p.m. There are darts, ping pong, air hockey,  Wii games, X box games, Netflix, board games and arts and crafts available. We do have special events on our schedule and do plan specific activities for staff to involve the youth in. For more information, call 695-6901.

Alzheimer Society Information

An information session is available to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. Anyone interested in registering for the sessions should call 709-576-0608 or email The series is for individuals and their families diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Includes sessions on an overview of dementia, coping strategies, community resources and supports.

Volunteer opportunity

Are you interested in volunteering? Western Health is looking for volunteers to assist as greeters at Western Memorial Regional Hospital and Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre. Greeters help welcome visitors and clients and assist them in finding locations throughout the building.

Volunteers wanted

Hospital Auxiliary inviting volunteers to work at their gift shop two-hours/week minimum. Shop is open seven days a week (2-4 p.m.) and (7-9 p.m.); accepting applications from males/females. High school students welcome. Training provided. Police check required. Call Doreen Burton at 695-2850.
