For the past 20-plus years, Burgeo has held an SPN Regional Qualifier Tournament for softball.

Topics :
Burgeo Recreation Commission , Burgeo , Corner Brook , Storm Stadium

With increasing difficulty to have out-of-town teams come to Burgeo, the Burgeo Recreation Commission this year decided to change it up a bit. We decided to put out an invitation to all softball players using Facebook and local TV outlets to enter their name for a draft tournament.

After the deadline to enter names had passed we looked at the number of players interested and determined how many teams we could create. Captains were then selected to pick teams in a draft style to create evenly matched teams.

We had 38 players enter (including the 4 captains that picked teams). Players were mostly from Burgeo, with some Ramea and Corner Brook players as well.

The tournament was held over a two-day period on July 7 and 8. It turned out to be very successful and a fun time for everyone involved. It was a great fundraiser for Storm Stadium, and something we will be trying again next year.
