Two southwest coast wrestlers. Two medals each.

That was the result when Brandon MacDonald and Devon Leamon went to the Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games in Grand Falls-Windsor.

"They did extremely well," said Coach Lockie MacDougall.

Both wrestlers competed on the 10-man team for the western region, earning each a silver medal.

They also contributed to the western team winning the Premier's Cup and the most improved team award.

Individually, both wrestlers brought home the goods as well. Leamon won a gold medal in the 52-kilogram division. MacDonald wrestled his way to the bronze medal in the heavyweight division.

"The wrestling was really good. Good competition," said Leamon. He said he came very close to losing in the gold medal match. It could've gone either way, but he came out on top.

Leamon wrestled Justin Bath of Carbonear for gold in his division.

MacDonald said his first match was against the eventual gold medal winner, Scott Baker from St. John's. MacDonald lost that match and one other, but still managed to triumph in the bronze medal match.

Both wrestlers say they are getting involved in mixed martial arts until the wrestling season begins again in the fall.
