Belanger came out on top of the boys regional 2A basketball tournament hosted at the school on March 6.

The tiny tournament saw the team take on only one opponent - the team from Burgeo.

Belanger won the first game 93-41, and the second game 103-36 in the two game total points tournament setup.

"Belanger played excellent basketball," said Coach Jan Peddle. "It was a very good opportunity to get all players a lot of floor time and to focus on running our different offensive setups."

Peddle complimented the team's Burgeo rivals. He said it was the first time in several years the school had a basketball team and they showed a lot of promise.

"There was definitely a display of some skill and a lot of heart. I am sure they will be a strong opponent if they are able to continue building during the next few years."

The Codroy Valley team was set to be in St. John's on Thursday to attend the 2A provincial basketball championship.

Mariner Josh White celebrates his goal - the team's first on Sunday.

A linesman attempts to pull a Junior Cataracts player off a Junior Mariner during one of the many small fights that broke out during Sunday's game.
