It's as official as a call on the blue line.

The Port aux Basques Junior Mariners are part of the Central-West Junior Hockey League for the upcoming season.

The team will debut with a pair of home games against the Junior Corner Brook Royals on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.

But Head Coach Bruce Billard said spectators are welcome to get a sneak peak at the players during their training camp being held at the Bruce II Sports Centre on Oct. 24 (6:30 p.m.) and Oct. 25 (2 p.m.).

He added that any players interested in joining the team can still sign up to participate by contacting him.

Some players are already confirmed to wear the Mariner's jersey.

Nick Tucker, Mike Farrell, Russell Hardy and Tyler Spencer may be familiar to many fans from their days in the minor hockey system with the Port aux Basques Blaze.

Other confirmed players with ties to the area include John Organ, son of previous Port aux Basques resident Same Organ; Kirk Tobin, whose uncle Shawn Tobin was a Senior Mariner; and Jordan LaRoux, a College of the North Atlantic student who will be the team's goalie.

The rest of the team roster is to be announced.

Aside from the Junior Royals, the Junior Mariners will battle it out with the Stephenville Junior Red Wings and the Central Junior Cataracts.

Special congratulations to the young men who are volunteering their time in bringing junior hockey back to Port-aux Basques. I'm sure the coaching staff and management are looking forward to the team building and skill development ahead.
For the players, I wish you the best of luck. If you show the coaches the strong effort, skills, and heads up play, I am confident that you will be strong contenders for this up coming season.
