Dear editor, In 1957, Burgeo Sea Cadet Corp 157 RCSCC Bob Bartlett was formed under Commanding Officer Charlie Blagdon. This year in May we held our 55th Annual Inspection this time under C/O Jeanette Hann.

Topics :
Sea cadet , Burgeo Lions Club

Over the years we have seen some great ladies and gentlemen come from our Corp. I am a firm believer that a lot of this is due to the discipline and respect taught by the officers of 157 RCSCC Bob Bartlett.

We have had Cadets visit other countries around the world; also recipient of the Duke of Edinburgh Award which is great accomplishment for our Corp. Every year we have Cadets going to summer camps which is a great experience for the youth of our town.

157 RCSCC Bob Bartlett peaked a few years ago with 52 cadets with a decline in students from age 12 to 18 there has been a decline in Sea cadet enrollment however last year we still had 28 cadets and I know there is still new kids wanting to join. However due to lack of officers it looks like there will be no cadets this year a lot of this is due to the Red Tape the Navy league has put out for volunteers to go through to become a officer, but if anyone is interested we will try and help you out.

As chairman of the Sea cadet Corp. sponsored by the Burgeo Lions Club, my committee and myself have exhausted all the avenues we can think of. We have advertised on local television and talked to past C/O. If no officers i.e. Training officers or other officers do not come forwards after 55 years there will be no more Sea cadets in our town and believe me they will be missed, especially during Nov. 11 and Christmas parade where our cadets always lead off and get the opportunity to show the public their skills and techniques they have learned over the years,

I am sure there must be someone out there willing to help the youth of our town. Adults once again I am pleading please don’t let down the youth of our town. Let us try and save 157 RCSCC Bob Bartlett, I am sure there are good officers out there. Idle minds do idle things.

Jim G. Marsden

Chairman Sea Cadet Corps.
