Letters to the Editor -
Dear Editor,
As a concerned citizen and local entertainer of Channel-Port aux Basques, I was of the understanding that the upcoming Come Home Year 2010 celebrations would provide local entertainers equal opportunity, equal pay, and first access to the events. Over the past, local entertainers have freely volunteered their services for many charitable events and since this is a Come Home Year celebration I feel we would be prime candidates to accommodate this connecting venue.
As per my conversation with the chairperson, I was informed that not everyone will be paid equally and you imagine the shock we felt when we found out that outside entertainers had already been booked. I know that this town has plenty of talent and think that visitors would prefer this type of homegrown entertainment. I have nothing against outside entertainers, but fail to see the rationale of possibly paying more taxpayers money for outside groups when our town could capitalize on its own resources.
As a taxpayer, I am in the process of proposing more questions and seeking more answers before I will feel comfortable with the way things seem to be. At present, I feel that we as entertainers in the community are being left in the dark while playing second fiddle to the so-called super stars.
Sincerely
Wade Osmond
