Letters to the Editor -
Dear Editor,
I would like to respond to the column by Brodie Thomas in last week's issue of The Gulf News, "Drink in your shed, not in your car." I am a resident of Rose Blanche and I was very upset at the comments make in that article pertaining to Rose Blanche. I would like to let the public know that everyone in Rose Blanche are not alcoholics who spend all our time driving around town "slurping beer from the bottle" as we go.
I consider myself a good citizen of the community and am involved in many activities in the community. I also consider Rose Blanche to be a great, safe community to live and raise my children. I am not saying that drinking and driving is not an issue in today's society because it is. However, to pin point Rose Blanche, the community in which Mr. Thomas lives himself, and down the residents of this community, was not fair.
Oh and by the way, thank you for letting all the tourists know that when visiting Rose Blanche you will not only see beautiful scenery and a wonderful lighthouse, but "beer bottles and empty beer boxes lining the roads."
Not only can one make excuses, but it seems like one can make assumptions as well. The incident where someone "accidentally" drove into the municipal garage on New Year's Eve - do you have proof, Mr. Thomas that this individual was drinking and driving? And obviously you did not know your facts as well, as this was on Dec. 25 and it was the town's salt shed, not the municipal garage.
Maybe people that do drink and drive, do it because they think they can get away with it, however making assumptions about the people of the community of Rose Blanche, this Mr. Thomas, you cannot get away with.
Sincerely,
Tammy Farrell
Rose Blanche
