Tech tips -
Editor's note: As Todd Musseau mentions below, his has chosen to make this his last Tech Tips column. We thank him for his contributions over the last two years.
This is it, my last column. Thank goodness! I have absolutely run out of things to talk about.
We have discussed a lot of different topics, and I would like to end this series much the same way I started it.
There is a wide variety of emerging technology out there, don't be afraid to explore it.
Remember to keep yourself safe on the internet. Do your automatic updates. Until Microsoft figures out how to keep you safe, you have to do it for yourself and keeping your stuff up-to-date is the first step.
Installing both anti-virus and anti-spyware is very important. Also, keep your firewall turned on. Supplement your operating system firewall with a hardware firewall if at all possible.
Never open spam email and always use your phishing filter.
Be careful what you download. Poorly written software can open holes in your computer for nasty people to do bad things to your private stuff.
Not every flashing advertisement on the internet is legitimate especially those saying you have a virus on your computer..... ha ha ha.
Once you have done everything you can to keep yourself safe, have at it. Good luck and happy computing!
