Tech tips - I found another cool piece of software that I would like to tell you about. It is by F-Secure, and called BlackLight Rootkit Eliminator. This program is tiny and is so simple to use.
Like the name said, it searches and removes rootkits from your computer. Rootkits are malware that do a good job hiding files and process and are often not found by regular virus scanners.
Browse on over to www.f-secure.com click the "downloads" tab and then click online scanner link (bottom right of page). Now click the BlackLight link.
Once you are on the BlackLlight page, click the download button and save the file fsbl.exe (about a meg in size) to your desktop. Double click to start the executable and simply click the scan button to begin.
The scanner runs in "normal mode" by default. Normal mode is for the average computer user obviously. If you are an expert, you can run the program in expert mode via a command line switch. You should note that expert mode is more susceptible to false positives and you will have to be able to determine the difference.
You can choose to rename any suspected bad items that BlackLight finds. However, you need to exercise caution doing this as you might be modifying something your computer needs to run. As always, before you proceed to fix any problems it finds, make sure you have your important stuff backed up.
I highly recommend that you consult the help file for more information about BlackLight's use; just click the "Help" link.
