The son of Paul and Wilhelmena Green, Jamie, recently became engaged to Rick Stanley’s daughter Holly. On Friday, September 7, Wilhelmena Green hosted a bridal shower for Holly, who came to Ramea with her father and with her mother Debbie.
The Stanley family members are all divers, and they operate together a business called Ocean Quest. They bring recreational divers from other provinces and countries, notably Germany, to sites in Newfoundland where the diving is good and wrecks or other features make diving especially interesting.
The Stanleys make sure that those visitors who want to do recreational diving are safe and well supplied.
Perhaps the Stanley family members were joking when they said that Holly Stanley agreed to become engaged to Jamie Green only on condition that he also take up diving. A family that does things together can be envied.
They were diving on Saturday, September 8, right in the harbour of Ramea, which is known as Ship Cove. It has by now been almost forgotten that when the Penny family still owned and operated the fish plant in the community, one of their vessels, the ‘Pennyworth,’ was accidentally rammed and sunk by another boat, not far from the company wharf.
The Stanley family and Jamie Green and a local diver, Kevin Fudge, went out in the Stanley’s boat to dive from it and search for remnants of the wreck which had been blown up so that it would not be a hazard to shipping. They located such remnants, and Rick Stanley says that he will expand the operations of his company to Ramea, which means that Ramea can expect more visitors next year, something that especially local business would welcome.
