Mr. Kinslow said vandals smashed the warning light on the town’s water treatment building.
The red warning light comes on if there is a chlorine leak in the building, or if too much chlorine is going into the town’s water.
Mr. Kinslow said if a town worker had entered the building during a leak, he or she could easily be killed in an instant.
“They’re not realizing what that light is there for, said Mr. Kinslow. “Honest to God, someone could’ve been killed.”
He said the cost to the town is about $100, but the human cost of the vandalism could be much worse.
Port aux Basques RCMP were called in to investigate. Mr. Kinslow is asking anyone with information to come forward.
“We’re getting a lot of damage done around the town here and this is coming out of the taxpayer’s pocket. If anyone sees anything, please report it to the town or the police because somebody could’ve lost their life over this.”
