Burnt Islands woman pleads guilty to fraud

A 46-year-old Burnt Islands woman has been sentenced for defrauding workers' compensation of more than $70,000.

A charge of fraud over $5,000 was laid in October 2011. The Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC) alleged the fraud took place between June 2003 and May 2010.

The woman pled guilty to the charges in a Corner Brook Court in May. On June 26 the judge handed down a conditional sentence of 12 months and 12 months probation.

She has been ordered to repay $64,387.17 to WHSCC.
