Firefighters extinguish a truck that caught fire on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Cape Ray turnoff

Everyone escaped safely from a pickup truck that caught fire near the Cape Ray turnoff on the Trans-Canada Highway.

A police office at the scene said the driver smelled smoke and pulled over.

Members of the Port aux Basques Volunteer Fire Department were first on the scene. The Cape Ray Volunteer Fire Department also responded.

Traffic was held up in both directons on the highway while firefighters extingushed the blaze.
