Three charges laid after drug seizure

A 38-year-old Port aux Basques man charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking was released on $1,000 bail yesterday.

The charges include:

- possession for purpose of trafficking, cannabis marijuana

- possession for trafcking - cannabis resin

- possession of purpose of trafficking (methylenedioxyamphetamine)

RCMP executed a search warrant at the Legallas Street home on Wednesday night, seizing 268 grams of marijuana, over 3,000 ecstasy pills and $9,000 cash.

Conditions of his release include keeping the peace, remaining in the province, not to associate with anyone under the age of 18 except immediate family, not to enter any place frequented by people under the age of 18 with the exception of College of the North Atlantic for schooling purposes, to refrain from contact of anyone with a criminal record, and not to own, possess or use a cell phone.

He also must surrender any firearms to the RCMP.

Yesterday members of the RCMP said firearm charges may be pending in the matter. That matter is still under investigation.

He is scheduled to appear in Port aux Basques provincial court on Feb. 22 to enter pleas to the charges
