Van catches fire on Route 470

Members of the Rose Blanche Volunteer Fire Brigade and Port aux Basques RCMP responded to the scene of a vehicle fire on Route 470 Sunday evening.

Members of the Rose Blanche Volunteer Fire Brigade and Port aux Basques RCMP responded to the scene of a vehicle fire on Route 470 Sunday evening.
The driver of the van was at a loss to explain the blaze, which started while he was driving towards Rose Blanche.
The driver was able to pull to the side of the road and safely exit the vehicle without injury. It is unknown if there were any passengers in the van.
Traffic was stopped for about 45 minutes as firefighters battled the stubborn fire. The flames spread across the road and started a small grass fire, which was quickly extinguished.
The fire left a large patch of burnt pavement just outside the Rose Blanche dump.
