Port aux Basques -

A fire broke out at Bob's Chicken Coop in Port aux Basques on Tuesday morning.

The local volunteer fire department responded to the scene at roughly 10:15 a.m. Smoke was billowing from the building but no flames were visible from the outside.

Firefighters directed water in through the kitchen exhaust vents and were able to enter the building through the front and side doors. No injuries were reported.

The structure is still standing but much of the vinyl siding melted off the rear of the building.

The tiny take-out restaurant has been in operation for over 30 years.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe that this catastrophy has happened, Bobs' was our final stop every time we went to NL. We would always take Bobs' Chicken and fries, soaked in their signature Gravy, on the boat trip back to the mainland...PLEASE , PLEASE, YOU HAVE TO REBUILD...

Unfortunate. The place is (was) an accepted landmark for the lifetimes of most people in town. My Dad used to bring home the half chicken as an occasional treat on his way home from work -- in the 1960s! Hope they build bigger and better. :-(

I am saddened to hear about the fire that has destroyed the most popular chicken with fries and gravy establishment that has ever existed. There are no other places to get the best snack pack on the planet, hopefully the owners will rebuild/repair and get this momumentual business back into the fine food establishment it has been for decades.

It's hard to imagine a Port Aux Basques without Bob's Chicken Coop.
On our travels back home we all can't wait to get our first meal of Bobs Fries & gravy and a cheeseburger or 2.

This is so sad!! Bob's was THE place to go in PAB! I can't count how many times I've been there while growing up for the awesome chicken with fries and gravy! And it was always our first and last stop when visiting home. They HAVE to rebuild!! PAB just won't be the same without Bob's Chicken Coop.
