Romeo Cormier appeared briefly in a Moncton courtroom last week.
The 62-year-old is facing several charges relating to an alleged abduction of a 54-year-old woman. The charges include kidnapping, unlawful confinement, robbery, assault with a weapon, death threats and sexual assault.
Mr. Cormier is now set to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on May 10 for election and to enter a plea, according to Crown Prosecutor Anne St. Jacques.
She said the delay was to allow his legal aid lawyer, Maurice Blanchard, time to review the case. Ms. St. Jacques said the May 10 court appearance is also expected to be a short one.
Depending on the outcome of the May court date, she said it could take several months for another date to be scheduled.
Michael LeBlanc is the other Crown prosecutor handling the case. He and Ms. St. Jacques will follow the case to its completion.
Mr. Cormier first appeared in court in late March and is being held in custody.
There is a court-ordered publication ban on any information that could identify the victim.
