Temporary visitation restrictions have been lifted at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville.
However, visitation bans continue at LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques and will be enhanced at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook.
The visitation restrictions were put in place after an outbreak of Norwalk, which is stomach flu-like illness that may include vomiting and diarrhea.
Patients who are coming to Western Memorial Regional Hospital for medical appointments or to be seen in the emergency department are asked to enter the hospital through the outpatients' entrance. They are requested to leave the facility after their appointment and not to go up on the floors to visit.
All other people are asked to enter the hospital through the main entrance. There are times when people may not be permitted to enter the hospital.
Limited exceptions for visitation may be made on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the nursing unit directly before coming to the hospital for instructions on how to proceed.
Western Health asks for the public's co-operation during this temporary visitation ban. These diseases can have a very severe impact on patients who are in hospital with an illness.
People who have any influenza-like symptoms including vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, cough, fever, runny nose, and headache are asked to refrain from visiting any of Western Health's facilities. Anyone who has had close contact with other people with these symptoms is also asked not to enter Western Health facilities. Individuals with any of these symptoms should rest at home, drink fluids, practice proper hand washing, and if the symptoms persist contact their physician.
