Clarification

The status of the GP/anesthetist position at LeGrow Health Centre was incorrectly represented in last week's story "Waking up to reality."

The position is not completely vacant, but rather is staffed by a general practitioner who does not have anesthetist training. Western Health said it has no intention of reducing the number of doctors at LeGrow.

Also in the story, Dr. Ken Jenkins said there has not been public or political pressure to maintain the position.

He later clarified that there has been significant long-term advocacy from the Town of Port aux Basques on the issue at the ministerial, departmental, health board and local levels. Dr. Jenkins added that Western Health's recruitment efforts are often aided by local participation from the town.
