Visitation at Western Memorial Regional Hospital is being limited by an outbreak of Norwalk Virus.
The virus is stomach flu-like illness which may include vomiting and diarrhea.
Exceptions for visitation may be made on a case-by-case basis for immediate family members of the terminally ill.
Restrictions on visitation were put in place yesterday at the Corner Brook Interfaith Home and continue at that facility.
People who have had vomiting and diarrhea or other flu like symptoms are asked to refrain from visiting any of Western Health's facilities. Individuals with any of these symptoms should rest at home, drink fluids, practice proper hand washing with hot water and soap, and if the symptoms persist contact their physician.
To prevent the spread of infection in any institution in the Western Health region, members of the public should wash/sanitize their hands when entering or leaving any of Western Health's facilities.
Visitors may also be asked to follow special precautions or instructions , such as wearing gloves, gowns, masks or washing hands.
