By 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Marine Atlantic resumed gulf crossings.
The company suspended operations at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23 in anticipation of Hurricane Bill.
As predicted, operations were suspended for 24 hours, restarting after the storm passed through the region.
"Latest weather reports indicate that Hurricane Bill will have passed through the region by Monday and as such, we can safely resume operations on Monday morning," said John Majchrowicz, Vice President of Operations. "There will be schedule changes for the next several days as we work to move the traffic that was displaced when we suspended operations. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers, and we are working to return to normal operations as soon as possible."
"Safety is the top concern for all of us with Marine Atlantic, and based on the latest weather forecasts for Hurricane Bill, we feel it is necessary to suspend operations for 24 hours starting Sunday morning," said John Majchrowicz, Vice President of Operations.
"Unfortunately, weather delays will inconvenience our customers, and we will work to minimize the impacts as much as possible," added Majchrowicz. "For the safety of our customers and employees, we ask our customers with reservations for Sunday and Monday to not travel to our facilities and terminals until they have been provided with alternate sailing times."
Customers with reservations for travel on Sunday (August 23) and Monday (August 24) can visit the Marine Atlantic web site at www.marine-atlantic.ca or call the reservation line 1-800-341-7981 to make alternate reservations.
