The first of December was a happy day for many men in Burgeo, because it meant finally being able to say farewell to their facial hair.

They had been growing mustaches for Movember! Movember is a popular charity in which men grow mustaches in the month of November to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer research.
People in many different countries participate in the charity and this year, Burgeo did as well.
As of the start of December, Burgeo had collectively raised $3119 for the prostate cancer research, an impressive amount that surpassed expectations.
On Dec. 1 the majority of the men who partook in Movember, along with some friends and family, came to the fire hall to celebrate the charity’s success. Also, names were drawn out of a bag, and one by one, the men headed up to the front of the hall to have their mustaches shaved off by local hairdresser Terri Ricketts.
A gift certificate was given away to Jim Marsden as well, who raised the most money for Movember in Burgeo.
Movember was a great success in Burgeo and hopefully men here will continue to participate in years to come.
