MEMORIAL SERVICE - The CN and Marine Atlantic Pensioners' Association will hold its annual memorial service for deceased members on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the CN Pensioners' Building. Pastor Jamie Warren will officiate. All families of deceased members are invited to attend. Free soup and sandwiches after the service.

HOCKEY AWARDS - Thursday is the deadline for nominations for Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador's Hockey Hall of Fame. Nominations are being accepted for the following five categories: player; builder; media; athlete/builder; and female. Nomination papers may be obtained by contacting HNL at 709-489-5512, by fax at 709-489-2273, www.hockeynl.ca or by email office@hockeynl.ca .

CONSERVATION AWARDS - The Canadian Wildlife Federation is accepting nominations for its Conservation Achievement Awards. Six Canadians (individuals or groups) who have devoted their time to conservation of wildlife and habitat will be honoured this June. Nomination forms can be downloaded at www.canadianwildlifefederation.ca ; deadline is Thursday.

BAKE SALE - The Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Hospital Auxiliary will hold a bake sale on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Grand Bay Mall.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - The Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador is currently seeking volunteers to help with fundraising activities, including but not limited to anyone interested in organizing and/or participating in its 21st Annual Walk for Memories in their local communities. REPORT CARDS - St. James Regional High's term two report cards will be released on April 19.

CULTURAL MEETING - Interested members of the cultural community and general public are invited to a meeting on April 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Greenwood Inn and Suites in Corner Brook. The Association of Cultural Industries will host a forum to talk about recent ACI research and initiatives, strategic priorities for ACI's ongoing arts advocacy work, and upcoming opportunities and challenges in the culture sector in Western Newfoundland. CARD GAME - The Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Hospital Auxiliary will hold its regular monthly card game at the Seniors Club on Main Street, Port aux Basques on April 22 at 2 p.m. Change partners after every game.

PARISH EVENT - There will be a potluck supper at 5 p.m. and a prayer and praise event at 6:30 p.m. on the Eve of St. George's Day, April 22 at the Parish of St. George's.

POT LUCK - There will be a potluck supper sponsored by the South Branch Fundraising Committee at the South Branch Social Centre on April 24 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. A dance with music by Reazon will start at 10 p.m.

LUNCH AND LEARN - The Gateway Women's Centre in partnership with Peaceful Communities will host a Lunch and Learn Session entitled "Building Your Mental Health One Support At A Time" in celebration of Mental Health Week. Presenters are Yvonne Lane and Danielle Walters, mental health and addictions counselors. The session will take place at Hotel Port aux Basques on April 30 at noon. To book your space, call 695-7505 no later than April 26. Book early as space is limited.

SWASP - Applications are now available for the 2010 Student Work and Service Program, SWASP Community Service component. More information is available online at envision.ca or call 1-877-753-9190. Deadline is April 30.

AUXILLARY CONFERENCE - Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting the Provincial Conference Sept. 10 and 11, 2010. They are looking for used jeans, Zest beet and pickle jars and any craft supplies that you may have to donate. Items can be dropped off at the Hospital Gift Shop or call 695-9643 or 695-9608.

Routine events

BROOMBALL - Ladies broomball takes place 5 p.m. on Saturdays at the Bruce II Sports Centre. Equipments is available for those who would like to give it a try. For more information, call 955-3248.

CADET CORPS - The 2357 St. James' Army Cadet Corps holds its regular meeting on Wednesdays at St. James' Regional High. For more information please call Capt. Charles Osmond at 695-2335, Capt. Sylvia Seaward at 695-2943 or Capt. Neville Gosse at 695-2545.

PEACEFUL COMMUNITIES - Peaceful Communities' regular meeting is every third Tuesday of the month starting at 9 a.m. at Hotel Port aux Basques. All are welcome.

BOOKS WANTED - The LeGrow Hospital Auxiliary is looking for used books and pocket novels. To donate, contact Karina at 695-9643 or Pat at 695-9608.

GIFT SHOP - Volunteers are needed to help operate the LeGrow Hospital gift shop, open daily from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Call Mary Mushrow at 695-7210 or Pat King at 695-9608 for details. Also, anyone wishing to knit items for the gift shop, with wool supplied, can call 695-2404 or 695-7210.

PENSIONERS MEETING - A general meeting of CN and MA Pensioners Association will be held on the third Thursday of every month at 2 p.m. All members are requested to attend.
