EDUCATION WEEK - This week is St. James Regional High Education Week.

WORKSHOP - Participate in a free one-day workshop on Tuesday at Hotel Port aux Basques and learn how to write an effective proposal. Members of town councils, service clubs, church groups, not-for profit organizations, seniors' clubs, volunteer boards and more are encouraged to attend. Lunch provided and travel reimbursed. COASTAL MEETING - The Bay St. George/Port au Port Marine and Coastal Steering committee is mapping significant coastal and marine areas as part of their approach to sustainable coastal planning. The committee needs the input from local residents to view a map and offer traditional knowledge about the marine and coastal areas from Little Friars cove to Cape Ray. The meeting will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Codroy Valley Area Development Association in Doyles. WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS - Join the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs (NLOWE) for part two of a free online series focused on marketing. "Using Tips, Tools and Tricks" takes place on Thursday from 9-10 a.m. To register, visit www.nlowe.org or call 1.888.NLOWE.11.

HOCKEY- All proposed amendments or additions to the constitution of the Central-West Junior Hockey League must be received in writing by no later than Friday. The league's annual general meeting and election of officers will take place in Grand Falls-Windsor on March 27 at 1 p.m. at the Mount Peyton Hotel. Fax proposals to 709-489-1616.

DINNER THEATRE - St. James ACW will be having a dinner theatre on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the St. James Memorial Centre. A hot roast beef dinner/dessert will be served followed with music and skits. Come along for a fun-filled evening. For tickets call Diane at 695-3777 or Kay at 695-3231.

LADIES BROOMBALL - Ladies Broomball will be Saturdays at 5 p.m. at the Bruce II Sports Centre. Equipment available for those who would like to come along and give it a try. For more info please call 955-3248.

ALZHEIMER SOCIETY - The Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador is looking for interested volunteers to organize and/or participate in its 21st Annual Walk for Memories in their local communities to support the services provided by the society. STATUS OF WOMEN - Nominations for those interested in joining the Gateway Status of Women Council must be received by March 15. The council will be holding its annual general meeting and election of officers on March 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Hotel Port aux Basques. All south west coast women are invited to attend. VARIETY CONCERT - St. Paul's Anglican Church will be holding a St. Patrick's Day Variety Concert at St. Paul's Anglican Church Hal in Grand Bay on March 15 at 7:30 p.m. Contact Effie Organ at 695-3963, Brenda Anderson at 695-7189 or Doreen Dowding at 695-3747.

CAREER FAIR - A career fair will be held at the St. James Regional High School gymnasium on March 17.

COLD PLATES - The United Church Women of Port aux Basques will be sponsoring a Shamrock take out cold plate on March 17. To order you may call 695-376, 695-7351 or 695-7160. Suppers to be picked up by 1 p.m. on that day.

POTLUCK - St. Paul's A.C.W. will hold its annual Potluck Luncheon on March 18 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Centre. Everyone welcome.

SWIM FOR HOPE - Swim for Hope will be on March 19. Please call Melanie at 695-6260 if you are interested in submitting a community challenge team or making a donation. Proceeds are going to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Center and the local swim club, Port aux Basques Piranhas.

SWEETS AND SONGS - St. James' High School Sweets and Songs (An afternoon of music and fine desserts) on March 21 from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., at the school gym. For additional information or tickets please contact the school at 695-3551.

DAFFODILS - Canadian Cancer Society volunteers will be selling daffodils, the flowers of hope, from March 26 to April 3. The fundraiser provides support to cancer patients in Newfoundland and Labrador. To pre-order contact the Canadian Cancer Society at 1-866-545-9533or visit www.cancer.ca .

BAKE SALE - The United Church Women of Port aux Basques will be having a bake sale on March 31 at 10 a.m. at the Grand Bay Mall.

WEBINAR - There will be a free Webinar Hearing Loss 101: Effective Communication Lunch and Learn on March 31 at 1 p.m. You can attend via computer throughout the province (high speed internet connection required). HOSPITAL AUXILLARY - Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting the Provincial Conference Sept. 10 and 11, 2010. They are looking for used jeans, Zest beet and pickle jars and any craft supplies that you may have to donate. Items can be dropped off at the Hospital Gift Shop or call 695-9643 or 695-9608.

ORANGE LODGE - A Royal Williams #20 meeting is held every second Thursday of each month. The LOBA Daughters of Channel 819 meet on the first and third Thursdays of every month. The RBP 1161 meet every fourth Thursday of the month.

-The Lions Club hosts a card game Thursdays at 8:30 p.m.

- St. Ann's Social Centre, Upper Ferry, hosts a card game Sundays and Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. For information call Phil Downey at 955-2528.

- The Royal Canadian Legion holds card games on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2 p.m., as well as cribbage on Mondays at 8 p.m.

Whether it be of a family member, a group of children in school, or simply a picture of someone's house, The Gulf News will print the photo in the Heritage Corner free-of-charge, along with the name of the person who submitted it and a brief description. All pictures will be returned to the owner in the same condition as they were received.
