A surprisingly warm day gave way to a cool evening as people lined the parade route form Channel to Grand Bay for Port aux Basques' Santa Claus Parade. It was the second year for a nighttime parade.
Brightly decorated floats lit up the parade route, which ran from Main Street, along High Street and up to St. James' Regional High.
The town's tree lighting ceremony, organized by the Port aux Basques and Area Chamber of Commerce, took place at the Bruce II Sports Centre after the parade. The Rev. Peter Boote blessed the tree and Deputy Mayor Chester Coffin said a few words on behalf of the town, reminding everyone to be generous during the holiday season.
It was a message people had already taken to heart. Susanne Ingram, executive director of the Gateway Women's Centre, said the food and toy drive during the parade was a great success.
