MARK ROCK HIKE - The third annual hike to Mark Rock, located on the mountain in South Branch, will take place on Saturday in honor of late Sgt. Craig Gillam. Leaving 11 a.m. from the Trans-Canada Highway, weather permitting. There will be a lunch served at the Gillam house after the hike. All are welcome. Those not up for the hike are welcome to come and view the hike from the old homestead, where Craig grew up, and have tea with Mary and Rita. Wear proper footwear and bring along a bottle of water. FLOWER SERVICES - St. James' Flower Services will be held on Sunday at Barachois Hill, 2 p.m. and High Street 3 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, they will be held on July 19.

CAMP GLOW - Woman aged 17 and up interested in finding out more about becoming a firefighter can now apply to attend Camp Glow - a week-long firefighting camp that incorporates classes, hands-on activities and physical training in the fire service environment. The program is modeled after what real firefighters go through during training. Exercises, classes and activities include introduction to the firefighter's personal protective equipment, use of tools and ladders, search and rescue and live fire training. TOUR FOR THE CURE - The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Tour for the Cure will be in Burgeo on July 20 at the Town Hall from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and in Port aux Basques on July 23 in the Grand Bay Mall from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Learn about breast health and the importance of regular screening. FOLK FESTIVAL - The 27th Annual Codroy Valley Folk Festival will be taking place July 24, 25 and 26 at the Sports Complex in Upper Ferry, proudly celebrating our heritage with the music of local musicians. Dance July 24 night - featuring Gordon Cormier. Dance July 25 night to the Humber Road Greasers! Youth Performance Hour, children's activities on July 26. FLOWER SERVICE - St. Paul's Flower Services will be held on July 26 at 2 p.m. at the Cemetery, next to the church, and at St. Paul's cemetery, Barachois Hill at 3 p.m.

TRAINING SESSION - The Arthritis Society is looking for volunteer leaders for the Arthritis Self-Management Program. Applications for the three-day training session in Corner Brook in September are now being accepted. For more information call Donna at 1-800-321-1433.

GRANTS AVAILABLE - The Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador is now accepting applications from registered charities for grants of up to $2,000 to fund projects that deal with a wide range of activities - from health care and education, to social services, the arts and the environment. BOOKS WANTED - The LeGrow Hospital Auxiliary is looking for used books and pocket novels. To donate, contact Karina at 695-9643 or Pat at 695-9608.

LEAP CENTRE - Monday and Tuesday at 4:30 are cooking nights, game nights will be held on Thursday 6-8 p.m., Friday is activity night from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday is movie nights from 7-9 p.m.

GIFT SHOP - Volunteers are needed to help operate the LeGrow Hospital gift shop, open daily from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Call Mary Mushrow at 695-7210 or Pat King at 695-9608 for details. Also, anyone wishing to knit items for the Hospital Gift Shop, with wool supplied, can call 695-2404 or 695-7210.

PENSIONERS MEETING - A general meeting of CN and MA Pensioners Association will be held on the fourth Thursday of every month at 2 p.m. All members are requested to attend.

ORANGE LODGE - A Royal Williams #20 meeting is held every second Thursday of each month. The LOBA Daughters of Channel 819 meet on the first and third Thursdays of every month. The RBP 1161 meet every fourth Thursday of the month.

CENTRE RENTAL - The HB Richard's Centre is available for rent. For more information call Kelly Penney at 695-3812.

BINGOS

- St. Ann's Centre in Upper Ferry is hosting bingo every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and every Sunday at 2:30 p.m. For more information call Phil Downey at 955-2528.

- There is bingo every Monday at the Codroy Valley Fire Hall at 8 p.m. For more information call Rick Moore at 955-2211.

CARD GAMES:

- There are cards every Tuesday and Thursday at the St. Kevin's Centre in St. Andrew's starting at 8 p.m. For more information call Teri Luedee at 955-2042.

- St. Ann's Social Centre in Upper Ferry is hosting a card game every Sunday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. For more information call Phil Downey at 955-2528.

- The Royal Canadian Legion holds card games on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2 p.m., as well there is a cribbage The Lions Club hosts a card game on Mondays at 8 p.m.

- Gateway Senior Citizens Club card game is held Mondays at 8:30 p.m.
